WORKING BLIND

This is not a type of contract that, to the best of our knowledge, one of our EMV's has ever been involved with before.

The contract involved the urgent piling to repair a small section of the seaward side of a sea wall at Shoeburyness.  It doesn’t sound particularly unusual but the access was from the landward side of the wall.  This meant that the excavator operator could not see what was going on!  The only way to undertake this job was by using a long reach excavator, which was able to extend over the embankment, with an OVR S-50 excavator mounted vibrator attached to the end of the dipper arm.  With the aid of a Banksman to guide, a dipper mounted camera and a Dig Master positional feedback system to assist, the driving of the 4 metre long AZ piles was completed in a couple of days.
